Ireland company data API: CRO number lookup and monitoring

A customer types a CRO number or the first letters of a name; your form fills in the legal name, company type, status and registered address from the Companies Registration Office (CRO), and you can watch the company for status changes. One key, and the same response shape as every other country the API covers.

What you get, and what you do not

Ireland is company-level: the CRO company record, the CRO strike-off list as a registry-compliance signal, monitoring alerts and public-procurement awards from TED. It has no officers, no corporate-event stream, no insolvency notices (Ireland is not one of the nine insolvency markets) and no beneficial owners.

• Company record: yes, keyed on the CRO number (GET /companies/search, GET /companies/{id}).
• Registry-compliance signal: yes, the CRO strike-off list (signal strike_off_listed), the state of a company that has not filed its annual return (risk_flag_type=registry_compliance, include=risk_flags).
• Monitoring: yes. Monitoring covers Spain, Ireland and Poland only; for Ireland it alerts on status changes, dissolution and sanctions matches (POST /monitor with country=IE).
• Public procurement: yes, from TED, above the EU thresholds only. Awards carry the supplier identifier as published and are not linked to company records (GET /procurement/awards?country=IE).
• Officers: no.
• Corporate events: no. The event endpoints answer for Ireland with an empty list and a notice.
• Insolvency notices: no. Ireland is not one of the nine insolvency markets (FR, DE, GB, AT, CH, NO, FI, US, NL).
• Beneficial owners: no. Irish access to the register of beneficial ownership is legally restricted.

What the Irish record gives your product

• Exact match on the CRO number: company_number=104547 with country=IE. A CRO number is a plain sequential integer, typically five to seven digits, with no letter prefix and no check digit.
• Autocomplete by name: a normalised, partial match ranked by a match score, one call per keystroke.
• The fields a form needs: legal name, company type (LTD, DAC, PLC, CLG and others) with its full label, status, registered address and county, the Eircode where the register holds one, the activity code where it publishes one, and the founding and dissolution dates.
• The register's own state: for Ireland status dissolved means the company no longer exists (status_canonical deregistered), and a company on the strike-off list reads strike_off_listed.
• A new-company feed: founded_after= with country=IE lists companies by incorporation date, paged with a cursor.

Check the shape, then look it up

There is no check digit, so no arithmetic can tell a real CRO number from a plausible one; only the lookup can. A short JavaScript function on the full page checks the shape (digits only, up to seven) so a stray letter or a pasted VAT number never costs a call.

Beyond the record

• Registry-compliance signal: GET /companies/search?risk_flag_type=registry_compliance&country=IE lists companies on the CRO strike-off list. It is a compliance signal, not an insolvency or a dissolution: the company is still on the register but has stopped meeting its filing duties, the state that precedes a forced strike-off.
• Monitoring: POST /monitor with country=IE subscribes a company by its id. Because the Irish record is company-level, the alerts are status changes, dissolution and sanctions matches (sanctions screening is beta), delivered to a signed webhook or through GET /monitor. How many companies a key can monitor scales with the plan.
• Public procurement: GET /procurement/awards?country=IE&nif=104547 finds the awards published under a CRO number. The source is TED, above the EU thresholds only, so contracts below the thresholds do not appear. Irish rows carry the published identifier without a link to a company record; the award is returned either way. Awards to natural persons are never returned.

What Ireland does not carry

No officers, no corporate-event stream, no insolvency notices, no beneficial owners, no share capital, no financial statements and no credit scores. Ireland is updated daily.

How do I look up an Irish company by CRO number from an API? Call GET /companies/search?company_number=104547&country=IE. A CRO number is a plain integer with no check digit, so a well-formed number can still belong to no company; only the lookup says whether it exists.

Can I validate a CRO number offline? Only its shape. CRO numbers carry no check digit and no letter prefix, so there is no arithmetic that separates a real number from a plausible one.
