Chile company data API: look up a company by RUT

Chilean companies of the Registro de Empresas y Sociedades in the same record shape as every other country: one key, one call, the source credited. Only the companies registered under the simplified regime of Ley 20.659 since 2013, not the whole Chilean register. Here is the call, the fields, and what the source does not hold.

The call

The same endpoint as every other live country, with country=CL. A company is found by its RUT (Rol Único Tributario: eight digits, a dash and a check digit) or by name:

A value that is not the RUT of a company answers with a 400 validation error: it has eight digits from 50,000,000, a dash and a check digit (0 to 9 or K) that fits the modulo 11 rule. Dots, the word RUT and a lower-case k are accepted. A number below 50,000,000 belongs to a natural person and is refused. The RUT is the tax number, so there is no separate VAT number and a vat search is refused.

What a record holds

Field	Notes
`company_number`	The RUT, `NNNNNNNN-D`, for example `76691442-K`.
`company_name`	As the register writes it, with the spaces cleaned.
`legal_form`	One of the four forms of the register: SpA (sociedad por acciones), SRL (sociedad de responsabilidad limitada), SA (sociedad anónima) or SAGR (sociedad de garantía recíproca).
`status`	Always empty (`status` null, `local_status` `unknown`): the open data states no status, and a company stays listed after it closes. There is no dissolution date.
Dates	`founding_date` and `registration_date` are the date the constitution was entered in the register. The company age (`age_years`, `age_band`) is counted from it.
`city`, `region`	The comuna of the registered domicile and the official name of its region (Chile has 16). The source has no street address.
`capital_amount`, `capital_currency`	The capital at constitution, in Chilean pesos (`CLP`); there is no euro figure.
`source_provider`	`RES`.

No register-change events and no monitoring

Chile has no register-change events and no company monitoring. The register files hold one kind of act, the constitution of a company, so there are no changes to watch, and POST /monitor refuses a Chilean company.

What is not in it

Only the companies registered under the simplified regime of Ley 20.659 ("Empresa en un Día") since 2013 are served, in four company forms: SpA, SRL, SA and SAGR. One-person companies (EIRL), partnerships (SCC, SCS, SCA) and every natural person are never served, so a search for a Chilean company outside this regime returns nothing even though the company exists.

Status and dissolution date. The open data carries neither.
Officers, shareholders and contacts. They are not in the source.
Street address. The source has the comuna and the region, not the street.
Activity code. Without one there is no NACE, ISIC or NAICS class and no EU size class.
VAT number. The RUT is the tax number; no VAT number is served and a vat search is refused.
Financial statements and insolvency notices. Neither is served; Chile is not one of the sixteen insolvency markets.

The file of the current year is cut at the end of a month and published some weeks later, so the newest registrations are not in yet. The data is updated monthly. A company search or record is 1 credit.
