Spain company registry API: NIF lookup, officers and BORME events

A customer types a NIF or the first letters of a name; your form fills in the legal name, legal form, status, registered address and registry coordinates from the Spanish commercial registry (Registro Mercantil) as published in the BORME, and the same key reads the administrators, every later BORME act as an event, and the risk signals on the company. One response shape, the same as every other country the API covers.

Company record: yes, keyed on the NIF/CIF, with the registry coordinates (tomo, libro, folio, sección, hoja) on the detail (GET /companies/search, GET /companies/{id}).
Officers: yes, the appointments published in the BORME, as appointments on the record and through GET /people/search (Spain is the default country).

What the Spanish record gives your product

Exact match on the NIF: nif=A46103834 with country=ES (company_number and vat are aliases). The match is exact, so send capitals with no spaces or hyphens.
Autocomplete by name: an accent-insensitive, normalised, partial match ranked by a match score, one call per keystroke.
The fields a form needs: legal name, legal form, status, registered address, postal code, city and province, the CNAE activity code with the statutory purpose (objeto social), share capital and the founding date.
Registry coordinates: tomo, libro, folio, sección, hoja and inscripción on the company detail.
Sector and new-company feeds: cnae= takes a code or prefix, objeto= a keyword in the objeto social, and founded_after= lists companies by incorporation date. These filters are for Spain.
The register's own state: in Spain status dissolved means the company still exists pending liquidation (status_canonical in_dissolution).

A field the gazette never printed is null: capital and address come from the acts that establish them, so a company incorporated before the digital editions and never since moved or recapitalised can carry neither, and the NIF of the very newest companies can fill in on a later update.

Validate before you call

A company NIF (formerly the CIF) is a letter for the legal form (A for an S.A., B for an S.L.), seven digits and a control character, digit or letter, computed from the seven digits. A mistyped one can be rejected in your own code before it costs a call. The free identifier validator and a short JavaScript function on the full page do exactly that.

Beyond the record

Officers: the company record carries appointments with role, dates and person; GET /people/search?name=...&country=ES finds officers by name.
BORME events: each act is an event with an event_type (dissolution, director_change, capital_change, new_incorporation, name_change, address_change, liquidation, merger, demerger, status_change, insolvency), the raw BORME act code in act_type, the date and a notice_url to the gazette. Search by company_name: on the event endpoints company_number is the registry-sheet number the BORME prints, and the NIF is in vat_number.
Monitoring: POST /monitor subscribes a company by its id and pushes corporate events, status changes and sanctions matches (sanctions screening is beta) to your signed webhook, or to GET /monitor if you poll.
Registry-compliance signal: registry_sheet_closed_date on the detail, and signal sheet_closed under include=risk_flags. It is a compliance signal, not an insolvency or a dissolution; the closure is kept until a reopening, or any later act that needs an open sheet, is published.
Tax-debt flags: GET /companies/search?has_risk_flag=true&country=ES lists flagged companies. The AEAT list reports balances as at 31 December of the prior year, is published about six months later, and inclusion is appealable. Each flag states in identifier_source whether its identifier was read directly or reconstructed with name corroboration, and the match is by exact NIF, which favours precision over recall.
Public procurement: GET /procurement/awards?country=ES&nif=... lists the awards of a supplier, open tenders and minor contracts alike. Minor contracts are awarded directly by law, so read procedure and nature before summing amounts. Awards to natural persons are never returned.
Buyer risk, beta: GET /procurement/buyers?country=ES ranks contracting bodies on competition and counterparty scores. A score is a prompt to look, not a finding of wrongdoing.
PEP screening, beta and Spain only: membership is by occupation, not by office, and every hit carries its recorded offices and a pep_tier. There are no relatives or close associates, so it does not by itself satisfy a FATF PEP obligation.
Concursal notices: GET /search?vat=A46103834&country=ES returns the insolvency filings, dissolutions and liquidations published in the BORME.

What Spain does not carry

No beneficial owners, no financial statements and no credit scores. Spain is not one of the nine insolvency markets. Spain is updated daily.
