Guide · LEI-registered entities

Company data API for LEI-registered entities

Where the API has no national company register, it serves the companies that hold a Legal Entity Identifier, from the GLEIF golden copy. Look one up by name or by LEI and get the legal name, legal form, status and registered address in the same response shape as every other country. The set is defined by the LEI, not by a register: a company with no LEI is not in it.

Countries served this way

The countries below are LEI-registered entities only. Each is a snapshot of the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) golden copy, read every day, restricted to legal persons of commercial types. More jurisdictions are added to this list as they go live; it shows only what is served today.

What the record gives your product

  • Exact match on the LEI. lei=0SNYM8YYKYB4ZH7G4F66 with the country. An LEI has 20 characters and an ISO 17442 check; company_number is the LEI.
  • Search by name. ?name= is a normalised, partial match ranked by a match score. Each call is one request.
  • The fields a form needs. Legal name, legal form, status, registered address, postal code, city, and the founding date where GLEIF has it.
  • The register entry the entity states. registry_details holds register_authority, register_name, register_type and register_number where GLEIF has them, and elf_code, the ISO 20275 legal-form code.
  • The LEI's own state. registry_details.lei_status is the renewal status of the LEI (issued, lapsed, retired); status describes the company: a company can be active while its LEI has lapsed.
  • One schema for every country. The same response shape as the registers of Spain, France, the United Kingdom and the rest; a value the source does not hold is null, never omitted.

A holder that states no legal form is served with legal_form null (legal_form_full reads "not stated in the LEI record"), except in Italy, India, Austria, Greece, Luxembourg, Hungary, Portugal and Jersey, where the law puts the legal form in the company name: there such a holder is served only when its name carries the form, and legal_form is read from the name. Funds, branches and sole proprietors are held back by the LEI category, and a name that reads as a person's is held back too.

Two calls and a list

# by LEI (20 characters)
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer rk_live_..." \
  "https://api.prometiam.com/functions/v1/risk-api/companies/search?country=IT&lei=0SNYM8YYKYB4ZH7G4F66"

# by name, for a type-ahead field
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer rk_live_..." \
  "https://api.prometiam.com/functions/v1/risk-api/companies/search?country=IT&name=ferrari"

To resolve a list, POST /companies/lookup takes up to 100 items in one call, each one counted as one request. The search returns the record's id; pass it to GET /companies/{id} for the detail.

Events and monitoring

Companies in these sets have register-change events: name, status, legal form and registered address, dated when the change first appears in the source data. There are none before the first load of the country. Monitoring is available too: add a company to a watchlist and get an alert on a status change, a dissolution, a sanctions match or a register-change event.

What these countries do not carry

  • Every company. Only companies that hold an LEI. Any other company is not in the set, and the set is not an extract of the national company register.
  • Officers, shareholders and beneficial owners. None.
  • Share capital and an activity code. Neither is served.
  • A VAT number. The set has none; a vat search is refused.
  • A registry-compliance signal and financial statements. Not part of the record.
  • Sole proprietors and other natural persons. Sole proprietors, civil and non-commercial partnerships, associations, foundations, trusts, mutual societies, public bodies, funds and branches are never served, so a lookup of one returns nothing even though it exists.
  • Insolvency notices. Austria is one of the sixteen insolvency markets; its notices are a separate dataset, served through GET /insolvency/search?country=AT, and are not linked to these records.

FAQ

Does Prometiam have the national company register of these countries?
No. These countries are served as LEI-registered entities from the GLEIF golden copy: companies that hold a Legal Entity Identifier. A company with no LEI is not in the set, and the set is not an extract of the national company register.

How do I look up a company by LEI from an API?
Call GET /companies/search with the country and lei=, for example lei=0SNYM8YYKYB4ZH7G4F66. The LEI has 20 characters and an ISO 17442 check; company_number is the LEI. To search by name use name= with the country.

Which entities are served?
Legal persons of commercial types that hold an LEI: companies, commercial partnerships and cooperatives, and holders that state no legal form (legal_form is then null, except in Italy, India, Austria, Greece, Luxembourg, Hungary, Portugal and Jersey, where such a holder is served only when its name carries the legal form and legal_form is read from the name). Sole proprietors, civil and non-commercial partnerships, associations, foundations, trusts, mutual societies, public bodies, funds and branches are never served, and a name that reads as a person is held back.

What is the difference between status and lei_status?
status is the company: active, deregistered or merged. lei_status in registry_details is the state of the LEI itself, for example issued or lapsed. A company can be active while its LEI has lapsed.

Can I look up these companies by VAT number?
No. The set carries no VAT number, so a vat search is refused. To check a number against VIES, use GET /vat/ followed by the number.
