The Uzņēmumu reģistrs (UR) is the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia, where commercial companies and other legal persons are registered. Every company in it has an 11-digit registration number, for example 40003032949 for Latvenergo. The Latvian VAT number is LV followed by the same 11 digits, for a company on the State Revenue Service’s list of VAT payers.
An 11-digit number starting 4 to 9 (an 11-digit number starting 0 to 3 is a personal code, never a company). The last digit completes a mod-11 check with the weights 9, 1, 4, 8, 3, 10, 2, 5, 7, 6, 1, and the check is enforced: a wrong number is rejected. The oldest codes have 9 digits and carry no check digit.
