Sumsub Alternative

An honest comparison for teams weighing Sumsub against Prometiam. These are only partly comparable. Sumsub sells a verification decision about a specific applicant — identity documents, biometric liveness, business verification, AML screening and transaction monitoring, wrapped in a compliance workflow. Prometiam sells queryable access to European company-registry data: search, officers, appointment history, corporate events, insolvency and sanctions screening.

The structural difference

Sumsub business verification runs through an applicant you create and then submit for checking. There is no documented standalone company-lookup endpoint and no bulk registry search, so you cannot freely query the underlying corporate data by name, identifier or jurisdiction. That suits onboarding well, but it cannot answer portfolio questions such as which counterparties changed director this month.

Where Sumsub is stronger

Individual identity verification with liveness and deepfake detection, which Prometiam does not do at all. AML screening across tens of thousands of sources in 240+ countries including PEP and adverse media. Transaction monitoring and Travel Rule. Far broader global registry reach. Human review of corporate documents where no machine-readable registry exists. Case management and workflow tooling.

Where Prometiam is stronger

Queryable data rather than pass/fail decisions. Corporate-event history as a normalised timeline. Published pricing for KYB — Sumsub places business verification in its custom Enterprise tier, so no public per-check price exists. Depth across six registries with officers, UK PSC ownership and insolvency in eight markets.

Frequently asked questions

Is Prometiam a replacement for Sumsub?
No. Sumsub is a full identity and AML platform - document and biometric identity verification, PEP and adverse-media screening, transaction monitoring, Travel Rule and case management. Prometiam does none of those. Prometiam is a company-registry data API. The overlap is limited to verifying that a business exists and who controls it.
Can I query companies freely with Sumsub KYB?
Not according to Sumsub's own developer documentation. Business verification is delivered as an applicant-centric workflow: you create an applicant for the company and request a check. There is no documented standalone company-lookup endpoint or bulk registry search, so you cannot freely query the underlying corporate data by name or identifier.
What does Sumsub KYB cost?
It is not published. Sumsub publishes per-verification pricing for its identity tiers with monthly minimums, but Business Verification is listed under the custom Enterprise tier, so there is no public per-KYB-check price. Prometiam publishes every tier: Free 1,000 calls a month, Starter 9.99 euros, Professional 29.99 euros, Scale 99.99 euros.
Does Prometiam do PEP and adverse-media screening?
PEP screening is beta and Spain-only, covering national politicians with no relatives or close associates, and there is no adverse-media product at all. Sumsub is substantially stronger on both. Prometiam's screening strength is sanctions and US export-control lists - 44,000+ active designations refreshed daily.
