Argentina company data API: look up and validate a CUIT

A customer types an Argentine CUIT or the first letters of a company name; your form fills in the legal name, legal form, status, registered address and CLAE activity code from the Registro Nacional de Sociedades. One key, and the same response shape as every other country the API covers.

What you get, and what you do not

Company records from the Registro Nacional de Sociedades (RNS) of the Argentine Ministry of Justice, built from the Federal Register of Legal Persons of ARCA, the tax authority: legal name, legal form, address, the CUIT, the CLAE activity code and the founding date. Commercial companies only (S.R.L., S.A., S.A.S., S.A.U., comandita, colectiva, capital e industria, garantía recíproca, state and mixed companies, foreign companies registered in Argentina and branches of foreign companies). Associations, foundations, cooperatives, mutual societies, trusts and other contract-based bodies are never served, nor are the sociedades de hecho and the other companies of section IV of Law 19,550, whether the register files them under that form or the company's own name says it is a sociedad de hecho, simple or irregular (most of their names are the full names of the partners, natural persons). The register states no legal status, so status is null (local_status unknown) except for a company whose name says it is in liquidation or in bankruptcy. The address is the tax domicile ARCA keeps verified, or the legal domicile where a company has none; registry_details.address_state is ARCA's own verdict on it. The CUIT, written 30-70308853-4, is the company number and its check digit is verified. The activity code is ARCA's CLAE (Formulario 883, six digits), not a NACE code. No share capital, employees, contacts, officers or partners, no VAT number (a vat search is refused), no registry-compliance signal, no financial statements and no insolvency notices. Updated monthly. Register-change events and company monitoring since 28 Oct 2026: the register is read monthly, so the first events come with the November file, and a dissolution alert never fires (the register states no closed status).

That is the record of an Argentine company as an onboarding form, an invoice check or a CRM row needs it. If you need officers, partners or contacts for Argentina, this is not the API for it.

What the Argentine record gives your product

  • Exact match on the CUIT. company_number=30-70308853-4 with country=AR; the hyphens are optional and a leading CUIT word is dropped. The check digit is strict: a CUIT that fails it is a 400 validation error, and so is the personal CUIT or CUIL of a person (prefix 20, 23, 24 or 27).
  • Autocomplete by name. ?name= is a normalised, partial match on the legal name. Each call is one request.
  • The fields a form needs. The legal name, the legal form, the address with the province in region, the CLAE code with its Spanish title and the founding date.
  • How good the address is. registry_details.address_state says whether ARCA declared, confirmed, could not confirm or marks the address as non-existent, so a form can flag it.
  • One schema for every country. The same response shape as the other countries, selected with country=AR.
FieldWhat it holds for Argentina
company_numberThe CUIT, written 30-70308853-4: 11 digits, prefix 30, 33 or 34 for a company.
company_nameThe legal name as ARCA publishes it, with the ñ it writes as # repaired where that is unambiguous and a clean liquidation or bankruptcy marker removed; registry_details.name_as_registered keeps the published text.
legal_formS.R.L., S.A., S.A.S. and the other commercial forms.
status, local_statusNull and unknown unless the name says liquidation (in_liquidation) or bankruptcy (in_liquidation_insolvent), in which case registry_details.status_code says which marker was read.
address, regionThe tax domicile ARCA keeps verified, or the legal domicile where there is none; region is the province. registry_details.address_basis says which, address_state is ARCA's verdict on it and legal_address is the legal domicile when it differs, which may be historical.
founding_dateThe date of the company contract; null where the register has none.
activity_code, activity_code_scheme, activity_descriptionThe principal CLAE code (Formulario 883, six digits), scheme AR-CLAE-F883, and its Spanish title; the active secondary codes follow in secondary_activity_codes. nace_code stays empty.

An abridged answer (illustrative, shown with placeholders; the real object has the full standard company fields):

Validate before you call

The check is strict, so a form can reject a mistyped CUIT before it costs a call. The identifier validator runs the same arithmetic in the browser:

// Argentine CUIT: 11 digits, prefix 30, 33 or 34 for a company, weights 5,4,3,2,7,6,5,4,3,2, check = 11 - (sum mod 11), 11 reads as 0, 10 is no valid number.
const W = [5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2]
export function checkCuit(input) {
  const t = String(input).replace(/^CUIT/i, '').replace(/[ -]/g, '')
  if (!/^(30|33|34)[0-9]{9}$/.test(t)) return null
  const r = 11 - (W.reduce((s, w, i) => s + w * Number(t[i]), 0) % 11)
  const dv = r === 11 ? 0 : r
  return dv !== 10 && dv === Number(t[10]) ? t.slice(0, 2) + '-' + t.slice(2, 10) + '-' + t[10] : null
}

checkCuit('30-70308853-4')   // '30-70308853-4'
checkCuit('30703088534')     // '30-70308853-4'
checkCuit('30-70308853-5') // null: fails the check digit

A passing check says the CUIT is well formed, never that the company exists. That is what the lookup is for.

Two calls and a list

# by CUIT (the hyphens are optional)
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer rk_live_..." "https://api.prometiam.com/functions/v1/risk-api/companies/search?company_number=30-70308853-4&country=AR"

# by name, for a type-ahead field
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer rk_live_..." "https://api.prometiam.com/functions/v1/risk-api/companies/search?name=mercadolibre&country=AR"

# a list of up to 100 in one call, each item counted as one request
curl -X POST "https://api.prometiam.com/functions/v1/risk-api/companies/lookup" -H "Authorization: Bearer rk_live_..." -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"items":[{"country":"AR","company_number":"30-70308853-4"}]}'

The search returns the record's id; pass it to the detail endpoint, GET /companies/ followed by the id.

What Argentina does not carry

  • Officers, partners and shareholders. Not in the register data.
  • A registered or closed status. The register states none; status is null except for liquidation and bankruptcy read from the name, and a company is never served as deregistered.
  • Share capital, employees and contacts. Not in the register data.
  • A VAT number. None is given for Argentina and a vat search is refused.
  • A NACE code. The activity code is CLAE, which is not mapped to NACE.
  • Insolvency notices. Argentina is not one of the sixteen insolvency markets.
  • Register-change events and monitoring. Since 28 Oct 2026. The register is read monthly, so the first events come with the November file; a dissolution alert never fires, because the register states no closed status.
  • Associations, foundations, cooperatives, mutual societies, trusts and sociedades de hecho. Never served, so a lookup of one returns nothing even though it exists.

FAQ

How do I look up an Argentine company by CUIT from an API?
Call GET /companies/search?company_number=30-70308853-4&country=AR. The hyphens are optional. The check digit is strict: a CUIT that fails it, or a personal CUIT or CUIL (prefix 20, 23, 24 or 27), is a 400 validation error.

Which Argentine entities are covered?
Commercial companies of the Registro Nacional de Sociedades: S.R.L., S.A., S.A.S., S.A.U., comandita, colectiva, capital e industria, garantía recíproca, state and mixed companies, foreign companies registered in Argentina and branches of foreign companies. Associations, foundations, cooperatives, mutual societies, trusts and sociedades de hecho are never served.

Why is the status empty?
The register states no legal status. Status is null (local_status unknown) unless the company name says it is in liquidation or in bankruptcy, which Argentine law (Law 19,550, article 101) makes the name carry. The activity state ARCA keeps is not a company status and is not served as one.

Which activity code does it carry?
ARCA's CLAE (Formulario 883), six digits, scheme AR-CLAE-F883, with its Spanish title, where the principal activity is in that list. The remaining companies still carry an older code that is not served. It is not mapped to NACE.

What is the founding date?
The date of the company contract. A contract date of 1 January 1901, which ARCA writes where it does not know the date, is read as unknown and the date is null.

Does it include officers or contacts?
No. There are no officers, partners, shareholders, contacts, employees or share capital.

How fresh is the data?
Monthly: ARCA sends the Ministry its file on the 15th and the Ministry publishes it a few days later. data_as_of is the date of the file.

Does it have register-change events and monitoring?
Yes, since 28 Oct 2026: name, status, legal form and address changes, and monitoring through POST /monitor. The register is read monthly, so the first events come with the November file, and a dissolution alert never fires because the register states no closed status.
