What is the JAR (Lithuania’s Register of Legal Entities)?

The Juridinių asmenų registras (JAR), the Register of Legal Entities, is kept by the State Enterprise Centre of Registers (Registrų centras). Every Lithuanian legal person has a legal entity code (juridinio asmens kodas) of 9 digits, for example 110053842 for Lietuvos geležinkeliai, with the ninth digit a check digit.

The company code

Exactly 9 digits. The ninth is a check digit: the first eight digits are weighted 1 to 8 and summed modulo 11; a remainder of 10 is recomputed with the weights 3 to 9 and 1, and a second 10 becomes 0. The check is enforced. LT in front of the digits is a VAT number, not the company code.

What Prometiam serves for Lithuania

Company records from the Register of Legal Entities (JAR): legal name, legal form, status (including liquidation, bankruptcy and restructuring), registered address with the county, the NACE Rev. 2.1 activity class, share capital for UAB and AB, the VAT number from the State Tax Inspectorate list, and dates; updated daily. Company records only: no officers, no registry-compliance signal and no insolvency notices. Sole proprietorships (individuali įmonė), partnerships (TUB, KUB), branches, state enterprises and non-commercial bodies are never served. Register-change events (name, status, legal form and registered address changes, dated when the change first appears in the register data, none before the first load in October 2026) and company monitoring are available.

Querying Lithuanian companies

GET /companies/search?company_number=110053842&country=LT returns the record; vat=LT100538411 finds it by VAT number. The free company code lookup runs the same call without a key.

Frequently asked questions

What is the JAR?
The Juridinių asmenų registras, the Register of Legal Entities of Lithuania, kept by the State Enterprise Centre of Registers (Registrų centras). Its open data is the source of the Lithuanian company records Prometiam serves.
What is a Lithuanian company code?
The juridinio asmens kodas: 9 digits, the ninth a check digit, such as 110053842 for Lietuvos geležinkeliai. The check is enforced: every code in the register satisfies it, so a code that fails is refused with a 400 validation error. LT in front of the digits is a VAT number, not the code, and is refused as company_number.
Is the Lithuanian VAT number derived from the company code?
No. The PVM mokėtojo kodas is LT and 9 or 12 digits issued by the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI), and it cannot be computed from the company code. The record carries it from the VMI list (vat_number_source is register) and it is null for a company that is not on the list. Search it with vat= and country=LT; to check a number against VIES use GET /vat/ followed by the number.
Which activity classification do Lithuanian records use?
EVRK 2.1, the national version of NACE Rev. 2.1, from Statistics Lithuania. The record gives the four-digit NACE class in nace_code (for example 64.19), the six-digit EVRK code in registry_details, and names the scheme in activity_code_scheme.
Does Prometiam serve Lithuanian officers, company events or insolvency notices?
No. Lithuanian records are company-level: no officers, no registry-compliance signal and no insolvency notices. Lithuania is not one of the twelve insolvency markets; liquidation, bankruptcy and restructuring show in the company status. Register-change events (name, status, legal form and registered address changes, dated when the change first appears in the register data, none before the first load in October 2026) and company monitoring are available.
Which Lithuanian entities are included?
Commercial legal persons: private limited companies (UAB), public limited companies (AB), small partnerships (MB), agricultural companies, cooperatives, European companies (SE) and similar forms. Sole proprietorships (individuali įmonė), partnerships (TUB, KUB), branches, state enterprises and non-commercial bodies such as associations are never served, so a lookup of one returns nothing even though it exists.
Is share capital included?
For UAB and AB, yes: capital_amount and capital_currency (EUR). Other forms, such as MB and cooperatives, have no share capital in the register data.
How often is the data updated?
Daily. The register publishes a working-day snapshot and the record follows it.
