Ecuador company data API: look up a company by RUC

Ecuadorian companies from the Superintendencia de Compañías and the SRI tax register in the same record shape as every other country: one key, one call, both sources credited. Here is the call, the fields, and what the sources do not hold.

The call

The same endpoint as every other live country, with country=EC. A company is found by its RUC (Registro Único de Contribuyentes, 13 digits) or by name:

# by RUC
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer rk_live_..." \
  "https://api.prometiam.com/functions/v1/risk-api/companies/search?company_number=1790016919001&country=EC"

# by name
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer rk_live_..." \
  "https://api.prometiam.com/functions/v1/risk-api/companies/search?name=corporacion%20favorita&country=EC"

A value that is not the RUC of a company answers with a 400 validation error: it has 13 digits, a third digit 9 (a private company) or 6 (a public one) and ends in 001, the company itself. A 12-digit value is read with the zero of the province restored, because a spreadsheet drops it. A RUC whose third digit is 0 to 5 belongs to a natural person and is refused, and so is one ending 002 or higher, which is an establishment. The check digit is a guide, not a rule: the numbers of the Sociedades por Acciones Simplificadas are plain serials, so a well-formed RUC whose check digit does not fit is accepted. The RUC is the tax number, so there is no separate VAT number and a vat search is refused.

What a record holds

FieldNotes
company_numberThe RUC, 13 digits, for example 1790016919001.
company_nameAs the Superintendencia lists it. For a company in liquidation the legal marker "en liquidación" is taken out of the name and kept in registry_details.name_as_registered.
legal_formOne of the nine company forms of the list: anónima, sociedad por acciones simplificada, responsabilidad limitada, sucursal extranjera, economía mixta, anónima en predios rústicos, anónima multinacional andina, comandita por acciones and anónima de desarrollo agropecuario.
statusThe state of the company's RUC with the SRI, not a court dissolution: active, suspended, or deregistered for a cancelled RUC. A company in liquidation is read from the legal marker in its name. A company the SRI file does not list yet, because it registered since the last monthly snapshot, has no status yet (status null, local_status unknown) until a snapshot lists it.
Datesfounding_date and registration_date are the SRI start of activities, not the date of incorporation; dissolution_date is the date a cancelled RUC was suspended. The company age (age_years, age_band) is counted from the start of activities.
city, regionThe canton and the province of the main establishment; the parish is in registry_details. The sources have no street address.
ActivityThe CIIU Rev. 4 code with Ecuador's national extension (a letter and six digits, scheme EC-CIIU-4) and its Spanish title. The NACE Rev. 2 class, or only its division, is derived through ISIC Rev. 4 where the official tables allow it, and nace_derived marks it.

Register-change events and monitoring

Ecuador has register-change events and company monitoring from its launch. An event is written when the name, the status, the legal form or the canton (the city) of a company changes in the register data, and it is dated when the change first appears there; there are none before Ecuador's launch, and the first come with the next monthly SRI snapshot, published around the 1st. The sources have no street address and no share capital, so there are no address or capital events. Monitoring alerts fire on a status change, a dissolution, a sanctions match and these events, through the same monitoring endpoints as every other country. The first time a monitored company gets a status, one status alert is raised. A company search or record is 1 credit and an events call 2 credits.

What is not in it

The sources carry no officers, shareholders or contacts, no street address, no share capital and no VAT number, so Prometiam serves none of them for Ecuador; there is no registry-compliance signal, no financial statements and no insolvency notices (Ecuador is not one of the insolvency markets; a liquidation and the cancellation of a RUC show in the status and in the register-change events). Only the companies of the Superintendencia list are served, in its nine company forms: associations and consortia and every natural person are never served, and banks, insurers, cooperatives and public enterprises, which other supervisors cover, are not in the list. The Superintendencia list is read daily and the SRI snapshot monthly, so the data is updated monthly.
