Type a Brazilian CNPJ, its 8-digit root or a company name and get the company from the Receita Federal register: legal name, legal form, status, state and capital, live. The CNPJ and its check digits are verified in your browser first.
Every legal entity in Brazil has a CNPJ from the Receita Federal: 14 characters written XX.XXX.XXX/XXXX-XX, an 8-character root for the entity, a 4-character order for the establishment (0001 is the head office) and two check digits. The check is strict. Since July 2026 the root and order may contain capital letters. The bare 8-digit root is looked up as the head office. An 11-digit value is a CPF, a personal number, and is refused.
The lookup sends the number to the Prometiam API and shows the name, legal form, status and city of the record. Company records from the Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica: legal name, trade name, legal form, status (active, suspended, inapta, deregistered or merged, with judicial recovery, bankruptcy and liquidation read from the special situation), address with the state, capital where filed and the CNAE 2.3 activity code. No partners, officers or contacts, no VAT number and no insolvency notices. MEI and other sole proprietors, non-profit entities and branches are never served.
The full record is one call away. The 14-day trial needs a card, and nothing is charged for 14 days. Subscribing keeps the same key working.
Why is my CNPJ rejected?
The two check digits are strict. A CNPJ that fails them, a string of one repeated character or an 11-digit CPF is refused before any call.
Does the 8-digit root work?
Yes. The root is looked up as the head office of the entity.
Why does a valid CNPJ return nothing?
Only commercial legal persons are served, and one record per root. A MEI or other sole proprietor, a non-profit entity, a public administration body or a branch is never returned. Try the name search.
Can I do this in code?
Yes: GET /companies/search?company_number=33.000.167/0001-01&country=BR with an API key returns the same record as JSON.
