CUI lookup

Type a Romanian CUI, a Romanian VAT number or a company name and get the company from the National Trade Register Office (ONRC): legal name, legal form, status, registered address and county, live. The CUI and its advisory check are verified in your browser first; a mismatch is shown as a warning.

What a CUI is

Every company in the Romanian trade register has a CUI of 2 to 10 digits, for example 5022670 for Banca Transilvania. The last digit is an advisory check digit. The Romanian VAT number is RO and the CUI.

What the lookup returns

Company records from the National Trade Register Office (ONRC): legal name, legal form, status (including dissolution, liquidation, insolvency, reorganisation, bankruptcy and deregistration), registered address with the county, CAEN activity codes, the J registration number and EUID, and dates; the VAT number is built from the CUI by rule (RO plus the CUI) and the registration is not confirmed; with register-change events and monitoring, but no officers, no registry-compliance signal, no share capital and no insolvency notices. Natural persons and sole traders (PF, PFA, II, IF, AF) are never served. Updated monthly. Contains data from the National Trade Register Office (ONRC), CC BY 4.0.

FAQ

Is the Romanian VAT number the same as the CUI?
It is built on it: RO plus the CUI. The registration is not confirmed.

Why is my CUI flagged?
The check is advisory: a mismatch is a warning and the number is still looked up.

Why does a valid CUI return nothing?
Natural persons, sole traders and branches are never served. Try the name search.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Romanian VAT number the same as the CUI?
It is built on it: RO plus the CUI. This lookup reads either form as the CUI. The VAT number is given by rule, so the registration is not confirmed.
Why is my CUI flagged?
The check digit is advisory. A CUI that fails it is shown with a warning and is still looked up, because a few genuine numbers do not satisfy the check. A 13-digit number is a personal code, not a company.
Why does a valid CUI return nothing?
Only companies and the other legal persons of the trade register are served. A natural person, an authorised natural person (PFA), a sole trader or a branch returns nothing even though it exists. Try the name search.
Can I do this in code?
Yes: GET /companies/search?company_number=5022670&country=RO with an API key returns the same record as JSON.
