Type a Colombian NIT or a company name and get the company from the RUES: legal name, legal form, status, department and last renewal year, live. The NIT and its check digit are verified in your browser first.
Every company in Colombia has a NIT (Número de Identificación Tributaria) from the tax authority DIAN: 9 digits starting with 8 or 9 and a check digit, written 900843898-9. The check digit is computed from the nine digits with a weighted sum modulo 11. Typed without it, the digit is added; typed with a digit that does not match, the number is rejected. A number starting 1 to 7 is a personal number, not a company.
The lookup sends the NIT to the Prometiam API and shows the name, legal form, status and department of the record. Company records from Confecámaras (RUES): legal name, legal form, status (liquidation, judicial liquidation and reorganisation are read from the company name; cancelled registrations are deregistered or merged), founding date, department, CIIU Rev.4 A.C. activity code and the last renewal year. No address, share capital, VAT number or officers, and no insolvency notices. Natural persons, non-profit entities, cooperatives, public bodies and establecimientos de comercio are never served.

Do I have to type the check digit?
No. Typed without it, the digit is added. Typed with a digit that does not match, the NIT is rejected.
Why does a valid NIT return nothing?
Only companies of the commercial register are served. A natural person, a non-profit entity, a cooperative, a public body or an establecimiento de comercio is never returned even though it has a NIT. Try the name search.
A company reads active. Is it current?
Not necessarily. The register keeps a company as active after a missed renewal. Check the last renewal year in the result.
Can I do this in code?
Yes: GET /companies/search?company_number=900843898-9&country=CO with an API key returns the same record as JSON.
