Registry code lookup

Type an Estonian registry code and get the company from the e-Business Register (Äriregister): legal name, legal form, status, registered address and activity code, live. The eight digits and their check digit are verified in your browser first.

What a registry code is

Every legal entity in the Estonian e-Business Register (Äriregister), run by the Centre of Registers and Information Systems (RIK), has a registry code (registrikood): eight digits, for example 10060701 for Swedbank AS. The first digit is 1, 7, 8 or 9 and the last digit is a check digit, calculated from the first seven with the weights 1 to 7 and, when that gives 10, the weights 3 to 9.

The check is enforced: a code that fails it is shown here as invalid and the API refuses it with a 400. The Estonian VAT number (KMKR, EE plus nine digits) is a separate number and is not derived from the registry code.

What the lookup returns

The lookup sends the code to the Prometiam API and returns the name, legal form, status and city of the record. Company records from the Estonian e-Business Register (RIK): legal name, legal form, status (including liquidation and bankruptcy), registered address, activity code (EMTAK 2008 or 2025, per company) and dates; with register-change events and monitoring, but no officers, no registry-compliance signal and no insolvency notices. Sole traders (FIE, füüsilisest isikust ettevõtja) are never served, and the VAT number (KMKR) is searchable with vat=.

The full record is one call away. Free — 14-day trial. 1,000 API calls, 10 requests/minute, no credit card. Subscribing keeps the same key working.

FAQ

Is the registry code the same as the VAT number?
No. The Estonian VAT number (KMKR) is EE plus nine digits and is a separate number. Search by it with the API's vat parameter; whether it is registered and active is a question only VIES answers.

What does an invalid check digit mean?
The last digit of a registry code is calculated from the first seven. A code that fails it is not a registry code, so the lookup does not send it and the API would refuse it with a 400.

Why does a valid code return nothing?
Sole traders (FIE, füüsilisest isikust ettevõtja) are never served, so the code of one returns nothing even though the business exists. A company deleted from the register is also no longer listed. Try the name search.

Can I do this in code?
Yes: GET /companies/search?company_number=10060701&country=EE with an API key returns the same record as JSON.
