OpenRegister Alternative
An honest comparison for teams weighing OpenRegister (openregister.de) against Prometiam. These two products barely overlap. OpenRegister is a Germany-only company-data API built on the Handelsregister, Bundesanzeiger and Transparenzregister — 4M+ German companies, statutory UBO extracts, structured financial statements, and on-demand official documents. Prometiam is a six-country EU + UK registry API covering Spain, France, the UK, Ireland, Poland and Norway — and no German commercial register at all. If you need Germany, OpenRegister is the right tool and Prometiam is not a substitute.
Where the overlap actually is
Two places. First, corporate insolvency: Prometiam serves German corporate insolvency notices from the official Insolvenzbekanntmachungen (78,000+ servable corporate notices as at 28 July 2026, current to the previous day) even though it holds no German registry. Second, sanctions screening, which Prometiam includes and which is not part of OpenRegister's published product.
What Prometiam covers
One schema over official registries — Spain (BORME), France (BODACC), the UK (Companies House, including PSC beneficial owners), Norway (Brønnøysundregistrene), plus Ireland (CRO) and Poland (KRS) at company level. Daily updates, corporate-event data, and sanctions plus US export-control screening across five sanctions lists (EU, UN, OFAC, UK OFSI, French gels) and 11 US export-control lists — 44,000+ active designations, refreshed daily. No German registry. PEP screening is beta and Spain-only. UBO is real only for the UK (PSC).
Honest trade-offs
- OpenRegister: Germany, which Prometiam simply does not have. Statutory Transparenzregister UBO extracts, Bundesanzeiger financial statements, and on-demand official documents (register extracts, shareholder lists, articles of association). Published self-serve pricing with a free tier.
- Prometiam: six countries in one schema, sanctions and export-control screening included, cross-border corporate insolvency across eight markets including Germany, public pricing (€0 / €9.99 / €29.99 / €99.99 / custom), EU residency.
- Many teams should run both, not choose.
