The MBS (matični broj subjekta) is the number a legal entity holds in the Croatian court register: nine digits, for example 080000604 for INA - Industrija nafte d.d. Its check digit is advisory. The register itself documents a few legacy numbers whose check digit does not match, so a mismatch is shown as a warning and the number is still looked up.
The OIB (osobni identifikacijski broj) is the 11-digit personal and business tax number, with an ISO 7064 MOD 11,10 check digit: 27759560625 is the OIB of the same company. It is issued to companies and to individuals alike, so a valid OIB does not say which. The Croatian VAT number is HR plus the OIB (HR27759560625). The two numbers are different and neither can be worked out from the other: the lookup reads nine digits as an MBS and eleven as an OIB.

Is the MBS the same as the OIB?
No. The MBS is the court-register number of a legal entity and the OIB is the tax number, and one cannot be worked out from the other. The lookup takes either: nine digits are read as an MBS, eleven as an OIB.
Is the OIB the same as the VAT number?
It is the basis of it: the Croatian VAT number is HR plus the OIB. The API resolves the VAT form to the same company as the OIB.
Why does a valid number return nothing?
Sole traders (trgovac pojedinac) are never served, and a company registered very recently may not be in the record yet. Try the name search.
Can I do this in code?
