Strike-Off Risk API: find companies that have stopped filing

A company can stop trading and stop filing long before anyone strikes it off. Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway publish a warning state on the way to a forced strike-off, and the API returns it as one flag, registry_compliance, with the register's own word for it in signal.

What the signal is

The registry-compliance signal marks a company that is still on the register but has stopped meeting its filing duties, the state that precedes a forced strike-off. It is a compliance signal, not an insolvency and not a dissolution: the company still exists and still has a status, so read the signal together with status.

The signal values, by register

  • Spain, sheet_closed: the BORME published a provisional closure of the registry sheet (annual accounts not filed, or struck from the tax-agency index). The closure stays until a reopening, or any later act that needs an open sheet, is published.
  • United Kingdom, strike_off_proposed: Companies House lists the company as Active - Proposal to strike off, a notice of compulsory strike-off that is pending unless objected to.
  • United Kingdom, accounts_overdue: an active company is past its next accounts due date.
  • Ireland, strike_off_listed: the CRO has listed the company for involuntary strike-off, typically for annual returns not filed.
  • Norway, forced_dissolution: Brønnøysundregistrene has the company under compulsory liquidation or dissolution (tvangsavvikling, tvangsoppløsning).

France and Poland publish no equivalent pre-signal: a removal from their registers is the event itself and is served as status. Any other country answers a risk_flag_type=registry_compliance search with a 400.

Two calls

List every company a register currently flags: GET /companies/search?risk_flag_type=registry_compliance&country=GB. It works without a name, returns 1 to 100 rows per page and pages with next_cursor. Read the signal for one company: GET /companies/{id}?country=GB&include=risk_flags returns a risk_flags array, empty when there is no signal, with signal, as_of, source and source_url. On Spain the array can also hold the Spain-only tax_debt entries, so filter on flag_type. Parameters: search and company detail in the docs.

What it does not tell you

It is not an insolvency: corporate insolvency notices are a separate endpoint, corporate only, for nine markets (FR, DE, GB, AT, CH, NO, FI, US, NL), and Spain's concursal data is on /search. It is not a dissolution, not a prediction that the company will be struck off, and not a dormancy or trading flag: the API does not report whether a company is trading. The signal exists for Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway only, and is refreshed daily.

Frequently asked questions

What is a company strike-off check API?
An API that tells you whether a company that is still on its register has reached the state that precedes a forced strike-off: closed registry sheet in Spain, a proposal to strike off or overdue accounts in the UK, a strike-off listing in Ireland, compulsory liquidation in Norway. Prometiam returns it as the registry_compliance risk flag, with the register's own word for it in signal.
Is a strike-off proposal the same as an insolvency?
No. The signal says the company has stopped meeting its filing duties while still on the register. It is not an insolvency and not a dissolution. Corporate insolvency notices are a separate endpoint, covering nine markets (FR, DE, GB, AT, CH, NO, FI, US, NL), and Spain's concursal data is on /search.
Which countries return the signal?
Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway. France and Poland publish no equivalent pre-signal; their removals from the register are served as status. Any other country answers a risk_flag_type=registry_compliance search with a 400.
Does it tell me whether a company is dormant?
No. The API does not report whether a company is trading. It reports that the register has flagged a failure to file, which is often what a company that has gone quiet leaves behind. A company that files on time carries no signal, whether or not it trades.
How do I list every flagged company in a country?
Call GET /companies/search with risk_flag_type=registry_compliance and country=ES, GB, IE or NO. No name is needed. Page with next_cursor. Read the signal itself with include=risk_flags on the company.
How current is the signal?
It is refreshed daily, and as_of dates the signal itself. A register can lift a signal when the company files, so re-read it before you act on an old result.
