What is the Ediktsdatei? Austria's court-notice database explained

The Ediktsdatei is the public database of court edicts (Edikte) of the Austrian judiciary, run by the Federal Ministry of Justice. The Insolvenzordnung has the insolvency courts announce the key steps of a proceeding by edict, so the opening of a bankruptcy (Konkursverfahren) or a restructuring proceeding (Sanierungsverfahren), the dismissal of a petition for lack of assets and the closure of a proceeding appear there, in its insolvency section, the Insolvenzdatei. It is a notice board, not a company register: identity lives in the Firmenbuch, where a company is identified by its Firmenbuchnummer.

What the edicts announce

Each stage of a proceeding is a separate edict with its own date: the opening of the Konkursverfahren, with the trustee (Masseverwalter) and the deadline for creditors to file claims; a Sanierungsverfahren, with or without self-administration (Eigenverwaltung); the dismissal of a petition for lack of assets that would cover the costs (Abweisung mangels kostendeckenden Vermögens); and the closure of the proceeding. Proceedings against private individuals (Schuldenregulierungsverfahren) exist alongside company proceedings; Prometiam never returns them.

Querying Austrian insolvencies from an API

Prometiam serves Austrian corporate insolvency notices through GET /insolvency/search?country=AT. Each record carries the debtor's name, the event type, the filing date, the city, a link to the notice and, where the notice prints one, the registry number. Notices are not linked to company records, because no Austrian company register is held, and consumer insolvencies are never returned. An empty result is not proof of solvency.
