What is the Czech public register (Veřejný rejstřík)?

The Veřejný rejstřík is the Czech public register, kept by the regional courts. Its commercial part, the obchodní rejstřík, is where Czech companies are registered, and the Ministry of Justice publishes it as ISVR open data. Every company has an IČO of 8 digits, for example 45274649 for ČEZ, a. s., and an entry in a court file such as B 1581 at the Municipal Court in Prague.

The IČO

The IČO (identifikační číslo osoby) has 8 digits; the open data drops leading zeros, so 3440966 is 03440966. The last digit is a mod-11 check with the weights 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. The check is advisory: the register holds live companies whose IČO fails it, and they are served, so a mismatch is flagged and never rejected.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Czech public register?
The Veřejný rejstřík, the public register of the Czech Republic, kept by the regional courts. Its commercial part, the obchodní rejstřík, is where companies are registered. The Ministry of Justice publishes it as ISVR open data, and with the Czech Statistical Office’s Register of Economic Entities (RES) it is the source of the Czech company records Prometiam serves.
What is an IČO?
The identifikační číslo osoby, an 8-digit number such as 45274649 (ČEZ, a. s.). The open data drops leading zeros, so a shorter number is read with them restored. The last digit is a mod-11 check (weights 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2), and the check is advisory: the register holds live companies whose IČO fails it, so they are served and a mismatch is flagged, not refused.
What are the court and file number?
Every entry sits in a court file: a letter for the section (A for v.o.s. and k.s., B for a.s., C for s.r.o., Dr for cooperatives) and a number, such as B 1581 at the Municipal Court in Prague (Městský soud v Praze). They are served in registry_details as registration_number and registration_court, with source_register and the register’s status_code.
Which Czech entities are included?
Commercial legal persons only: limited liability companies (s.r.o.), joint-stock companies (a.s.), general commercial partnerships (v.o.s.), limited partnerships (k.s.), cooperatives (družstvo), European companies (SE), European cooperative societies (SCE) and EEIGs. Sole traders (OSVČ) and other natural persons, associations, foundations, trust funds, owners’ associations (SVJ) and branches are never served.
Does the Czech record include officers, a VAT number or insolvency notices?
No officers, partners, shareholders or beneficial owners (the register’s person blocks are never read or stored), no registry-compliance signal, no VAT number (a vat search is refused and the DIČ is not served), no insolvency notices and no financial statements. The Czech Republic is not one of the twelve insolvency markets: insolvency and bankruptcy show in the company status and in register-change events.
Which activity classification do Czech records use?
CZ-NACE 2025 from the Czech Statistical Office’s Register of Economic Entities, in activity_code with the scheme in activity_code_scheme. The region (kraj) comes from the same source.
How fresh is the data?
Updated every working day. Register-change events (name, status, legal form, registered address and share capital) are dated when the change first appears in the register data, none before the first load in October 2026.
