BizFile+, ACRA open data or an API: three routes to Singapore company data

Singapore publishes company information in three different ways. Which one you need depends on whether you want an official document, a data file or a call from your software.

BizFile+: the official front door

BizFile+ is ACRA's online service for filing and for buying official information on entities: a person searches for an entity and can purchase its business profile and other documents. When you need a document that comes from ACRA itself, for a bank, a court or a contract, this is the route. It is built for people at a screen, not for software.

ACRA open data: files on data.gov.sg

ACRA publishes datasets of entity information on data.gov.sg, split into files, under the Singapore Open Data Licence. They are free and suit an analyst who wants to download everything and do their own work. The cost is yours: reassembling the files, matching old and new formats, deciding which status values mean "active", and refreshing on a schedule.

An API: the files, already assembled

The Prometiam API reads the same open data and serves it through GET /companies/search?country=SG, in the standard company object that every other country uses. You get lookup by UEN, name autocomplete, batch lookup for up to 100 entities per call and monitoring webhooks, without storing or joining a single file.

What the API leaves out

  • Officers, shareholders and share capital. Not in the open data, so not in the API. BizFile+ has them.
  • Sole proprietorships, partnerships and limited partnerships. Never served.
  • A GST number. There is none in the record.
  • Documents. Data, not filings or extracts.

Choosing

Use BizFile+ when you need the register's own paper. Use the open data if you want to run a one-off study on the whole population. Use the API when a form, a CRM or a screening job needs the answer in milliseconds, for one entity at a time or a hundred at once. Many teams use two: the API for volume, BizFile+ for the case that needs evidence.

Singapore is included in every plan at no upcharge. The 14-day free trial includes 500 credits, needs a card and charges nothing; Starter (EUR 9.99 a month, 1,000 credits) follows unless you cancel. A company record costs 1 credit; an error response costs nothing. See pricing for the plans.
