InvoiceNow, Peppol and the UEN

InvoiceNow is Singapore's national e-invoicing network, built on Peppol, and a business is addressed on it by its UEN. Here is how the identifier works and where a company lookup helps.

What InvoiceNow is

InvoiceNow is Singapore's e-invoicing network, based on the Peppol standard. Invoices travel between businesses' software through Peppol access points, and IMDA is Singapore's Peppol Authority. Instead of emailing a PDF, a supplier's system sends structured invoice data straight into the customer's system.

The UEN is the identifier

A Singapore business's Peppol ID is built from its Unique Entity Number. Under scheme identifier 0195 the ID is written with the prefix SGUEN followed by the UEN, and any UEN takes the same form, for example 0195:SGUEN196800306E. Your access point provider registers the ID in the Singapore Peppol Directory from your UEN and will confirm the exact form. The UEN itself is the number ACRA issues to every registered entity, so it is also the key you can look up.

What IRAS requires

IRAS is phasing in a requirement for GST-registered businesses to transmit invoice data to it through InvoiceNow. Per IRAS, it started on 1 November 2025 for newly incorporated companies that register for GST voluntarily, and applies from 1 April 2026 to all new voluntary GST registrants. From 1 April 2028 it covers new compulsory registrants and existing registrants with annual supplies of S$200,000 or less; the other existing registrants follow on 1 April 2029 (up to S$1 million), 1 April 2030 (up to S$4 million) and 1 April 2031 (above S$4 million). IRAS's GST InvoiceNow requirement page has the current dates and exceptions. This is not tax advice.

Where a company lookup helps

Prometiam does not serve GST or Peppol registration, and it is not an access point. What it does is tell you who owns a UEN, which matters when a UEN becomes a routing address:

  • Before adding a customer or supplier as a trading partner, check that the UEN has a valid check letter and belongs to the entity on the contract.
  • Compare the registered name and the address with your records, so an invoice does not go to a similarly named entity.
  • Look at the status: an entity in liquidation, judicial management, receivership or strike-off is a reason to pause.
  • Keep the supplier file honest over time with POST /monitor, which sends a webhook when the entity's status or name changes.

What it cannot tell you

  • Whether the entity is GST-registered or on InvoiceNow. Neither is in ACRA's data. Ask the business or check IRAS's GST register search.
  • Sole proprietorships, partnerships and limited partnerships. They hold UENs (8 digits) and may use InvoiceNow, but the API does not serve them.
  • Invoice validation or delivery. That belongs to your access point.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Peppol ID for a Singapore company?
It is built from the UEN under Peppol scheme 0195, written with the prefix SGUEN followed by the UEN. Your access point registers it; confirm the format with them.
Is InvoiceNow mandatory?
For GST-registered businesses IRAS is phasing in a requirement to transmit invoice data through InvoiceNow, starting with newly incorporated companies that register for GST voluntarily from 1 November 2025 and all new voluntary registrants from 1 April 2026. Existing registrants follow in phases from 1 April 2028 to 1 April 2031, by annual supplies; check IRAS for your date.
Can the API tell me if a company is GST-registered?
No. There is no GST number in the Singapore record and a vat= search is refused.
Can I verify a UEN before I add a partner?
Yes: GET /companies/search?country=SG&company_number=... checks the check letter and returns the entity.
