For a fintech, a payment provider or a marketplace onboarding a Singapore business, the first KYB step is simple: is this a real, live, registered entity, and is it the one the applicant says it is?
The applicant enters a UEN. You call GET /companies/search?country=SG&company_number=... and compare what comes back with what they told you.
| Check | Field | Reads as |
|---|---|---|
| The entity exists | company_number, company_name | A match means ACRA's data holds the entity; no match means stop and ask. |
| Name matches the application | company_name, previous_names | Compare names, allowing for a recent change. |
| It is alive | status, status_code | Active, or a state that needs a decision: liquidation, judicial management, receivership, strike-off, merged, deregistered. |
| Type is what you accept | legal_form | Private company, public company, LLP, foreign company branch. |
| Address is plausible | address, postal_code | The registered address, six-digit postal code. |
| Activity fits the product | activity_code | The SSIC 2020 code for the declared business. |
| Filing hygiene | annual return and accounts due dates | A long-overdue date is a soft signal. |
KYB is not a one-off. Add the entity to POST /monitor and a webhook arrives when its status, name, legal form or registered address changes, for example a move into liquidation or a strike-off. The register is read monthly, so a change is dated by the read that first shows it, none before the first load in October 2026.
Treat the register match as the identity step: it proves the entity exists and reads its status. Ownership, control and screening are separate steps, and the regulatory expectations for them in Singapore (MAS notices on anti-money laundering for financial institutions, for instance) are yours to apply; the API supplies the data for the first step and does not make the compliance decision. For the generic flow see KYB onboarding.
