Search a US company by name, state registration number (such as NY-4424185), SEC CIK or LEI and get the record live: name, state registration, state of formation, status, legal form, address and identifiers. The shape of the number is checked in your browser first.
A US company number is the state code, a dash and the register number: NY-4424185 (BUTCHY'S WINE & SPIRITS, INC., a New York domestic business corporation). An SEC filer is found by its CIK, CIK- and ten digits (CIK-0000320193 finds Apple Inc.), and a company with an LEI by LEI- and the 20-character LEI. None of them has a check digit, so only the shape is verified.
The lookup sends the search to the Prometiam API and returns the record's name, state registration (the state and whether it is domestic or foreign), state of formation, status, legal form, address and its CIK, EIN and LEI where it has them. Company records from the business registers of New York, Colorado, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, plus SEC filers (EDGAR) and LEI holders (GLEIF) from every state, Delaware included. One record per state registration. New York and Pennsylvania publish active entities only. Updated weekly. Does this find every US company?
No. There is no national US register. It searches the registers of New York, Colorado, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, plus SEC filers and LEI holders from every state. A company registered only in another state, with no SEC filing and no LEI, is not found.
Is there a US VAT number?
No. The United States has no VAT, so a vat search is refused. SEC filers carry an EIN, shown as an identifier.
Why is a dissolved company missing?
New York and Pennsylvania publish active entities only. Colorado and Connecticut publish every status.
Can I do this in code?
