What a CUIT is
The CUIT (Clave Única de Identificación Tributaria) is the tax identification key ARCA gives a legal entity, and it is the company number in the register: 11 digits written 30-70308853-4. A company holds the prefix 30 or 33, or 34 for a foreign legal entity; 20, 23, 24 and 27 are the CUIT and CUIL of people and are refused. The check digit is enforced: the first ten digits are weighted 5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and the check digit is 11 minus the sum modulo 11, where 11 reads as 0 and a result of 10 means no valid number. For 30-70308853-4 the sum is 150, 150 modulo 11 is 7 and 11 − 7 = 4.
A CUIT, CUIL or CDI word in front is dropped. Whether a company is registered for VAT (IVA) is not in the register, so no VAT number is served.
What the lookup returns
The lookup sends the number to the Prometiam API and returns the name, legal form and address of the record. Company records from the Registro Nacional de Sociedades (RNS) of the Ministry of Justice, built from the Padrón Federal de Personas Jurídicas of ARCA and updated monthly: legal name, legal form, address (the tax domicile ARCA keeps verified, or the legal domicile where there is none), the date of the company contract and ARCA's CLAE activity code (not NACE, served where the principal activity is in the list of Form 883), with register-change events (name, status, legal form and address; none before 28 October 2026, the first with the November file) and monitoring (status change, corporate events and sanctions match; a dissolution alert never fires, as the register states no closed status). The register states no legal status: the status is empty except for a company whose name says it is in liquidation or bankruptcy. No officers, share capital, employees or contacts, no registry-compliance signal, no VAT number, no financial statements and no insolvency notices. Commercial companies only (S.R.L., S.A., S.A.S., S.A.U., limited, general and capital-and-industry partnerships, mutual guarantee companies, state and mixed companies, and foreign companies registered in Argentina and their branches); associations, foundations, cooperatives, mutual societies, trusts, contract-based bodies and the sociedades de hecho and other section IV companies of Law 19,550 are never served.

FAQ
Is a personal CUIT or CUIL accepted?
No. A personal CUIT or CUIL (prefix 20, 23, 24 or 27) is refused: this tool takes the CUIT of a company, which starts 30, 33 or 34.
Why does a valid CUIT return nothing?
Only commercial companies are served. An association, a foundation, a cooperative, a mutual society, a trust, a sociedad de hecho or another section IV company of Law 19,550 returns nothing even though it exists. Try the name search.
Does the register show whether a company is active?
No. The register states no legal status, and ARCA's activity state is not served as one: the status is empty unless the company's name says it is in liquidation or bankruptcy.
Can I do this in code?
