RUT lookup

Type a Chilean RUT or a company name and get the company from the Registro de Empresas y Sociedades (RES) of the Ministry of Economy: legal name, legal form, commune and region, date of constitution and capital, live. The RUT and its check digit are verified in your browser first. This is a partial register: only companies set up under the simplified regime of Law 20.659 (Empresa en un Día) since 2013.

What a RUT is

The RUT (Rol Único Tributario) of a company is written NNNNNNNN-D: eight digits from 50,000,000, a dash and a check digit from 0 to 9 or K, for example 76286049-K. Dots, the word RUT in front and a lower-case k are accepted. A number below 50,000,000 is a natural person's RUT and is refused. The check digit is module 11 and is enforced: the digits of the body are weighted 2 to 7 from the right, and the check is 11 minus the sum modulo 11 (11 reads as 0, 10 as K). For 76286049-K the sum is 155, 155 modulo 11 is 1 and 11 − 1 = 10, which reads K.

The RUT is also the tax number, so no VAT number is served.

What the lookup returns

The lookup sends the RUT to the Prometiam API and returns the name, legal form, commune and region, date of constitution and capital of the record. Company records from the Registro de Empresas y Sociedades (RES), updated monthly; the newest registrations are not in yet, because the file of the current year is published some weeks after it is cut. A partial register: only the companies registered under the simplified regime of Law 20.659 since 2013, in four forms (SpA, SRL, SA and SAGR); one-person companies (EIRL), partnerships (SCC, SCS, SCA) and every natural person are never served, and companies formed before 2013 or outside the regime are absent. No status (the open data states none, so a company stays listed after it closes), no street address, no activity code, no officers, shareholders or contacts, no VAT number, no financial statements and no insolvency notices; the capital is the capital at constitution, in Chilean pesos. Chile has no register-change events and no monitoring.

FAQ

Is this the whole Chilean company register?
No. It is the Registro de Empresas y Sociedades: only companies registered under the simplified regime of Law 20.659 (Empresa en un Día) since 2013. A company formed before 2013 or by another route is not in it, so an empty result does not prove that a company does not exist.

Why does a valid RUT return nothing?
The company is not in the RES: a one-person company (EIRL), a partnership, a natural person, or a company formed before 2013 or outside the simplified regime. The newest registrations are not in yet either. Try the name search.

Why is there no status?
The open data records only the constitution and states no status or closing, so the status is empty for every company and a company stays listed after it closes.

Can I do this in code?
