What an EDRPOU code is
Every legal entity in the Unified State Register has an EDRPOU code of 8 digits with its leading zeros, for example 21673832 for Kyivstar. The last digit is a check digit: the first seven digits are weighted 1 to 7 (7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 for codes between 30,000,000 and 60,000,000) and the sum is taken modulo 11; a remainder of 10 repeats the sum with every weight raised by 2. The check is advisory: a few genuine codes fail it, so a mismatch is a warning and the code is still looked up.
A shorter number is read with its leading zeros restored (32112 is 00032112) and a UA prefix is dropped. A 10-digit number is a person's tax number, not a company, and is refused. The record carries no VAT number: the Ukrainian VAT number is a separate number and cannot be derived from the EDRPOU code.
What the lookup returns
The lookup sends the code to the Prometiam API and returns the name, legal form, status and registration date of the record. Company records from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, Individual Entrepreneurs and Public Organisations (EDR) of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, updated weekly: legal name in Ukrainian, legal form, status (including liquidation and bankruptcy proceedings), registration and termination dates and share capital in hryvnia where the register states one, with register-change events (name, status, legal form and share capital; none before Ukraine's launch in October 2026) and company monitoring. No address, activity code or contacts (withheld since martial law was introduced), no officers, founders or beneficial owners, no VAT number, no financial statements and no insolvency notices. Commercial legal persons only: individual entrepreneurs (FOP) and other natural persons, farms, associations, parties, unions, religious and charitable bodies, public bodies and branches are never served, and some state and defence-related entities are not in the open data.

FAQ
Is the EDRPOU code the VAT number?
No. The answer carries no VAT number, and a VAT search for Ukraine is refused.
Why is my EDRPOU flagged?
The check digit is advisory. A code that fails it is shown with a warning and is still looked up, because a few genuine codes do not satisfy the check. A 10-digit number is a person's tax number, not a company.
Why does a valid EDRPOU return nothing?
Only commercial legal persons are served. An individual entrepreneur (FOP), another natural person, a farm, an association, a party, a union, a religious or charitable body, a public body or a branch returns nothing even though it exists. Try the name search.
